Laundry Love: A New Ministry of Sts. MM&M
Laundry Love South Florida - Pompano Beach had a successful Grand Opening late Wednesday afternoon. Our guests (and volunteers) enjoyed 15 pizzas, a celebration cake and bottles of water as the new volunteers learned the process, helped clean our guest's laundry, made friends, traded stories, showed love for one another and shared appreciation for what we do at Laundry Love! This Laundry Love location is a new ministry of St. Mary Magdalene & St. Martin Episcopal Church, 1400 Riverside Drive, Coral Springs, FL 33071.
While "what" we do is amazing, "how" we do it is even more remarkable. We received so many great comments and thank you's from our guests as we cleaned approximately 50 loads, or 1,000 pounds of bedding and clothing.
We want to recognize so many wonderful people who showed up to help us get this new location up and running:
- St. Mary Magdalene/St. Martins-Pompano team members included Carol, Angela, Bess, Denise, Juliet, Robert, and Thom.
-
All Saints - Hollywood team members included Barbara, Ed, Frank, Gregg, Julie, Joe, Joe, Katie, Rich, and Sharon.
-
The Sock Monster Laundromat helpers included Anna, AJ, Angina, Claudia,DeAndrea, Eric, Ranasia and Travasia.
Thanks also to Jet's Pizza, Oakland Park Blvd., for donating pizzas for our event!
All of us at Laundry Love South Florida are thrilled to welcome Pompano Beach to our growing family, as we work together to serve additional individuals and families in need!
What is most important about Laundry Love though, is what clean laundry means to each guest.
- Someone struggling in a minimum wage job has clean uniforms.
- Children go to school without being teased or bullied due to having dirty or smelly clothes.
- Families have the comfort of clean clothes or blankets.
- An elder without a home has the chance to wear clean clothing and experience love through our interaction with them.
- For each Laundry Love guest, it means being treated with dignity as our volunteers give them a smile, encouragement, or listen to their stories.
