Lenten Prayers: Wednesday in the Fifth Week of Lent

A Lenten reflection.

April 06, 2022

Meditations from Isaiah:
  1. Awake and Sing, You Who Dwell in Dust (Isaiah 26:19)

Lent started with dust,

That stuff of the earth

From which we emerged,

To which we’ll return.

But what happens in

The between times?

What is our relationship

With dust then?

Strangely, we are always

Being made,

Always returning;

God is constantly

Creating

From that stuff of the earth:

From dust.

    2. Behold, A New Thing (Isaiah 43:19)

    Lengthening of days

means increasing light in the world around.

During this season, a light within us

also dawns as we remove –

    one by one –

    those things that cast shadows.

Slowly, we open the eyes of our souls,

    perhaps shielding against

    startling brightness at first,

    but then widening

    to drink in the wonder

    of what is being revealed:

the wonder of a saving God,

    who bursts from a tomb,

to bring us a new thing:

    life abundant, eternal.

    Hearts full of love.

    Hearts full of light.
